Rise-n-Shine

Q: The Force

PAX: Strikeout, Warrior, Whole Grain, Captain Camo, Yachty, Little Mitten, Hurricane

Workout: We met at Pearson Park (by the playground) and walked to the courthouse because we needed the steps for a toned-down version of the Fireman's Challenge. The Fireman's Challenge is a tribute workout dedicated to honoring the fallen, particularly the firefighters, who we lost on that fateful day 20 years ago. Our version was modified and I chose 20 as our number of reps to commemorate the 20th anniversary. We started with some stretches before jumping into the workout. Our version had:

  • 20 stairs (going up the courthouse steps and coming down was 1 set of stairs)
  • 20 push-ups
  • 20 stairs
  • 20 squats
  • 20 stairs
  • 20 lunges
  • 20 stairs
  • 20 hallelujahs
  • 20 stairs

We completed the hallelujahs and last bit of stairs back at Pearson Park. We also stopped for a minute of silence at 8:46 am, as this was when the first plane crashed into the World Trade Center. After we completed our workout, we had announcements, Warrior closed us in prayer and we did our COT. Below is the list of the actual 9/11 Fireman's Challenge workout that I modified from.

  • 396 steps or 22 flights
  • 100 push-ups
  • 396 steps or 22 flights
  • 100 prisoner squats
  • 396 steps or 22 flights
  • 100 lunges
  • 396 steps or 22 flights
  • 43 pull-ups
  • 396 steps or 22 flights
The total amount of steps is 110 flights of stairs, the amount that firefighters, police and EMS climbed in order to look for and rescue victims at the World Trade Center. 343 are the total reps for the other exercises and that number represents the number of fallen firefighters who we lost that day.
